Making bum bags...
Reciclaje.pe is an NGO from Peru that aims to empower informal recyclers by giving them tools and resources to create products out of the materials they collect.
Back in 2019 I collaborated with them to build a set of precious plastic machines in a suburb from Lima called Comas. This collaboration gave birth to the campaign #NoComasPlastico in an effort to make visible the work of the recyclers.
Making handbags out of plastic foils was the most direct way we found to bring value to their work. As plastic foils are found in abundance and they lack value in the market.
Currently these leather like pieces are getting sold through Mama Qucha, a socially driven brand with strong values in sustainability and women rights.
